Jessica Curry, founder of Interiors by J.Curry in Rochester, MN, understands the value of building something exceptional, especially when it’s local. Just two hours from Cambria’s flagship slab manufacturing facility, she has enjoyed a connection with the brand throughout her career.
Today, she applies those exacting standards to her own business, now in its 10th year, offering residential interior design services to the Rochester area from her downtown studio and showroom. “Full service is our forte,” Jessica notes. “We sell the countertops and cabinets so that it is a holistic experience for our clients. It lets us ensure they get exactly what they want.”
A Designer at Heart
“As a kid, I thought I’d go into fashion design,” Jessica recalls. However, a high school class in home interiors and space planning became a pivotal moment. “I realized I could create fashion for the home,” she explains. This discovery led her to pursue an Interior Design degree, grounded in ASID and NKBA standards.
After college, Jessica launched her career at a kitchen and bath company, quickly advancing from intern to designer, and learning the business for nearly a decade. Upon reaching the proper qualifications, Jessica received a certification from the National Kitchen and Bath Association as a Certified Kitchen Designer. “It gave me a great foundation—cabinetry, countertops, floor plans, working with builders—I learned it all.” Yet, her ambition was to provide more tailored client services, guiding projects from concept to completion. This passion fueled her decision to open her own firm in 2015.
Seven years later, Jessica made another strategic move, which took her from a 600-square-foot studio into a newly renovated 2,500-square-foot studio and showroom. The investment paid off. “Clients say it’s one of the best showrooms in town,” she shares with a smile. “Being able to see, touch, and feel the materials truly validates the feeling of quality.” Her showroom displays Cambria natural quartz surfaces in vignettes and as large-paneled pieces, allowing clients to experience its versatile aesthetics, from subtle elegance to bold statements.
A Lifelong Cambria Connection
“I remember working with Cambria in my very first design job,” she says. “Back then, the Quarry Collection™, with its granite-like movement and depth, was a game-changer. And Cambria hasn’t stopped innovating since.”
Jessica highlights durability and the extensive range of designs as key selling points for her clients. However, it’s Cambria’s unparalleled customization capabilities and robust support that make it her top choice. “I’m especially appreciative given my technical background,” she explains. “They provide CAD drawings and precise fabrication notes, so I can show my clients exactly what they’re getting. That level of detail makes a huge difference.”
Jessica has leveraged Cambria designs for stunning bookmatched backsplashes, elegant floating shelves, sophisticated mitered waterfall edges, and grout-free shower cladding, including using lighter-weight 1cm slabs. She also keeps current with design innovations like the debossed veining of Inverness Stonestreet™ and the striking metal alloy veins found in new designs such as the dark-toned Remington Brass™ with Cambria Satin™ finish.
A Signature Approach to Design
“I’m committed to bringing design trends to life in a personal way for my clients,” Jessica asserts. “I don’t want to simply ‘cut and paste’ elements from project to project. Every client deserves a space that truly reflects them.”
Her discerning eye for mixing materials and colors is central to her approach. “It’s all about balance and contrast,” she says. “For example, a kitchen featuring light quartz with dark veining on countertops, contrasted with dark quartz and light veining on the island.”
Jessica flawlessly executed this scheme in her showroom’s captivating black, white, and natural kitchen. It showcases a trio of Cambria designs: ebony-toned Woodcroft on perimeter counters, pristine Inverness Frost on backsplashes, and the dramatic Inverness Platinum with deep ash veining on the island.
Looking to the future, Jessica envisions including even more innovative applications for Cambria: “I’d love to use it in furniture pieces, as well as for fluted backsplashes and uniquely shaped countertops, islands, and bench seating through thermoforming. The possibilities are endless.”
Insight for Emerging Designers
Jessica offers valuable advice for those new to the field: “Find a mentor. You have a degree, now learn the hands-on business side. So much of it—from measuring to managing expectations—is something you learn through experience.”
