Below the Trusses: Shaping Spaces with Creativity and Care

For Amy Oliveti, founder of Below the Trusses, design wasn’t always her plan. She realized her passion in college by watching a student’s interior design projects take shape. Feeling inspired by the blend of problem-solving and creativity, she transitioned from business to interior design at the University of Georgia.

That decision grew into a career spanning two decades in commercial interior design, from multifamily clubhouses to large-scale corporate offices. Then one residential project redirected her journey. Experiencing the joy of seeing a family embrace their home solidified her love of residential design. That led to the launch of her firm, Below the Trusses. Founded in 2022 in Jacksonville, FL, the company serves clients across the East Coast, most recently extending to North Carolina and New York.

A Name That Says It All

The name Below the Trusses reflects the heart of Amy’s work. As a certified and registered interior designer in Florida and Georgia, she shapes every element of a home’s interior design—the finishes, furnishings, lighting, and environment—all that lives “below the trusses” of a home.

Designing with Intention

For Amy, design is never arbitrary. “I love to explain the ‘why’ behind my designs and to connect with clients in meaningful ways—understanding their vision, their needs, and what they truly want in their homes,” she says. Those relationships are the most rewarding part of her work, inspiring her creativity, and helping her shape interiors into lasting and personal spaces that enhance her clients’ lives.

The Cambria Difference

Amy’s introduction to Cambria came during her years in Atlanta, when she first encountered Brittanicca™. “I remember absolutely falling in love with the unique pattern and color,” she says. That first impression has stayed with her.

Since then, Cambria has become a trusted partner in her design process, featured in nearly every project. “There is a design for every style. Whether clients are looking for something more traditional or modern, I can always find the right fit,” Amy explains. Drawn to the product not only for its beauty but also for the assurances it brings, she adds: “I always emphasize Cambria’s transferable Full Lifetime Warranty. My clients really value that peace of mind.”

Homes Transformed

The Taylor Residence: Amy’s first residential commission transformed an unfinished basement into a multifunctional space for entertaining, while also featuring two quiet home offices set away from the action. The design showcased Harrogate™, with its soft gray veining, across the vanity top.

The Monroe Residence: A coastal retreat with sweeping views of dunes, woods, and ocean, this new construction drew its palette directly from the surrounding landscape. In the kitchen, Cambria’s Portrush crowns a striking two-level island, complemented by deep blue cabinetry that echoes the design’s flowing navy veining.

Brittanicca Gold Cool™, with its flowing golden currents, enhances multiple spaces, including the powder bath, pool bath, and wet bar. In the primary bath, Inverness Platinum™ in Cambria Matte® finish highlights its signature debossed veining on the countertops, creating subtle dimension.

Designs You Can Feel

Amy’s design palette often includes Cambria favorites such as Brittanicca, with soft cloudlike wisps; Newport®, a timeless bright white; and the deeply veined Inverness® designs, where movement and texture create an unmatched tactile quality.

I know I’ve really connected with designs like Inverness when I can’t stop running my hand across the surface—I become fascinated by it.

The Art of Finishes

For Amy, choosing the right finish is never an afterthought. It’s an important design choice that shapes how a surface feels in its environment. Most often turning to the Polished finish for its luminous quality, she finds that Cambria Satin™ finish gives an inviting textured touch and reduces glare in sunlit rooms, while Cambria Matte finish adds softness to calm, grounded environments.

Advice for Emerging Designers

When Amy launched Below the Trusses, it wasn’t without hesitation. “It can be scary, but it’s worth it,” she says. With more than two decades of experience, she still views each project as an opportunity to evolve. That dedication and ability to hone in on specific projects became the experience she needed to venture out on her own, and is the same advice she offers to designers starting out.
