Schloegel Design Remodel: Timeless Homes, Built for Living

In 1980, Jake Schloegel spent $300 to buy a contracting company. His purchase gave him one wooden box, two old stepladders, and the beginning of a dream—today known as Schloegel Design Remodel.
Growing up in Midtown Kansas City, Jake shared a home with his parents, grandmother, and eight siblings. Space was tight, but with a handy father, Jake learned early that houses could adapt to meet a family’s needs. Together they spent weekends tackling projects, eventually adding a family room that doubled as a bedroom. From a young age, he understood that homes could and should evolve to support the way people live.
Jake recognized the limitations of the traditional construction model that kept design and build separate. He built a full-service company that has become a trusted name in remodeling. Chris Peterson, who started as a carpenter 29 years ago and worked his way through nearly every role, now jointly owns the business with Jake’s youngest son, Charlie Schloegel. Together, they carry forward Jake’s vision. With more than 60 professionals, the team serves homeowners across the Kansas City Metro and the Lake of the Ozarks.
A Lasting Vision
Schloegel Design Remodel’s philosophy reflects its origins—remodeling should be seamless, client-focused, and always shaped by the way people live. Rather than pursuing a signature style, the team tailors each project to reflect the homeowner’s personality and way of life.
That commitment is embodied by longtime team members like Design Director Megan Bringman, who joined the firm in 2006. “For us, there is no single style. It’s always about what speaks to the client, from a travel memento to a detail from their home’s history,” Megan explains.
Cambria Connection
Schloegel Design Remodel has specified Cambria natural quartz surfaces for years, prominently displaying them in its showroom so clients can experience the scale, movement, and detail up close. For the design team, the greatest advantage of Cambria is its versatility.
Support is another factor the team values. “We’ve always loved our Cambria representatives. They’re there when we need them. That makes it easy for us and reassuring for our clients.”
And something equally important to Schloegel Design Remodel and its clients: The product is American made. “It’s one of the things I always highlight about Cambria,” Megan notes.
At Home with Cambria: Three Standout Projects
The Mid-Century: In a Kansas City mid-century home, Schloegel Design Remodel transformed a dated kitchen into a sleek, masculine space tailored to its owner’s lifestyle. The design features Cambria Black™ on the countertops, peninsula, and backsplash, paired with matte black and walnut cabinetry. The striking simplicity and clean lines make the space feel like “a work of art,” says Megan.
The California Coastal: After an unfortunate water leak forced a full-home renovation, Schloegel Design Remodel crafted a cohesive space that reflects the client’s style and personal art collection. Cambria makes appearances throughout: Inverness Frost™ in the kitchen, Rose Bay™ in the breakfast nook, Ainsley™ in the guest bath, and Swanbridge™ in the primary bath. The result is eclectic yet harmonious, blending design and lifestyle seamlessly.

The Classic Reimagined: Schloegel Design Remodel transformed the kitchen and buffet with Cambria’s Gladstone™. The soft gray surface, marked by darker veining, anchors the design while complementing bold blue cabinetry and gold accents. A curved island serves as the centerpiece, a distinctive fabrication detail that grounds the space and elevates the overall design.

Beyond the Countertop
While Cambria often takes center stage in kitchens and baths, Schloegel Design Remodel also embraces the quartz material in creative ways that showcase its versatility. In the company’s showroom, a bookmatched Brittanicca™ slab clads a wall, while Ella™ tops a large custom conference table, demonstrating the wide range of possibilities. In fact, that custom conference table inspired the design of a 22-seat dining table for a client’s extended family, now in the works for an upcoming project.
Continuing the Vision
Schloegel Design Remodel continues to evolve with a focus on timeless design that accommodates modern life. Rather than chasing trends, the team emphasizes classic details, lasting quality, and a seamless client experience. It’s a continuation of Jake Schloegel’s original belief—that homes should adapt to the people who live in them—a legacy the company has carried forward for more than 45 years.
