Founded in 1989 by Dan and Miriam Kent, Kent Homes has grown from a family-run business to a second-generation, woman-owned portfolio builder. Today, the company is led by their daughter, Ashley Kent, who officially took ownership in 2019.
Based in Wilmington, NC, Kent Homes serves the greater southeastern coastal region with a client-first approach that prioritizes personalization and transparency. While the company has expanded over the years, its core philosophy remains unchanged: crafting homes grounded in strong relationships, open communication, and a commitment to quality at every stage.
The Kent Homes Approach
For Kent Homes, the goal is to provide what Ashley describes as “a smarter way to a luxury home,” combining thoughtful design, quality construction, transparent communication, and exceptional customer care. Each project is approached with a balance of structure and flexibility, offering a streamlined building process without limiting creativity. While the company operates within a defined framework of floor plans, each home is informed by the preferences and priorities of the homeowner.
Where Design Takes Shape
A key element of the Kent Homes experience is its in-house Design Studio, where homeowners work one-on-one with a professional design consultant to navigate selections, finishes, and material decisions.
“We often tell homeowners that the Design Studio is where their house truly begins to feel like their home. It’s where personal style, daily routines, family needs, and design preferences come together,” says Ashley. Fully integrated with Kent Homes’ construction, purchasing, and sales teams, the Design Studio ensures selections are not only beautiful, but practical and achievable.
The Cambria Connection
Cambria has become an integral part of the Kent Homes design process in recent years, aligning with the team’s emphasis on quality, craftsmanship, and long-term homeowner satisfaction. From a design perspective, Cambria offers surfaces that bring depth, movement, and sophistication to a space, while also delivering the durability and low maintenance homeowners value.
Featured Projects
Each project reflects a careful balance of cohesion and intention, with design choices that feel elevated while remaining approachable for a wide range of homeowners.
Bar Harbour at the Bluffs: The design vision for this home was refined coastal living: bright, welcoming, and timeless, with a balance of elegance and comfort. Exposed wood ceiling beams anchor the space, while neutral wood cabinetry, crisp white finishes, and subtle gold hardware create a look that feels both simple and refined.
Throughout the kitchen, Everleigh spans the island, countertops, and full-height backsplash. “Its subtle movement and soft veining add depth without overwhelming the space, allowing the cabinetry, architectural details, and natural light to work together harmoniously,” Ashley says.

Cooper’s Bay at Sunset Reach: This design takes a more distinct approach, with Brittanicca Warm™ as the foundation for the space, bringing warmth and movement across the island, countertops, and range backsplash.
Paired with rustic wood cabinetry, crisp finishes, and subtle gold accents, the design strikes a balance between texture and simplicity. The result is a space that feels clean and coastal, yet layered with character.

Designing for the Coast with Cambria
In coastal North Carolina, design preferences are shaped by the natural beauty of the region, with homeowners often drawn to bright interiors, natural light, layered textures, and palettes inspired by the coast.
“We continue to see strong demand for warm whites, soft neutrals, natural wood tones, muted blues, and materials that create a sense of calm and timelessness. Designs like Portrush® resonate because they complement that vision beautifully,” Ashley says.
Built on Relationships
Kent Homes’ homeowner-first approach has helped the company earn GuildQuality’s Guildmaster Award for 15 consecutive years, a recognition Ashley sees as a reflection of the trust homeowners place in the team and the consistency with which Kent Homes delivers on that trust.
For Kent Homes, the greatest measure of success is not only the finished home, but the life that unfolds within it. “At the end of the day, we aren’t simply building homes, we’re helping families create places where life happens,” Ashley says.
