In the late 1970s, Don Fesenmeyer was just a teenager working in a cabinet shop when it suddenly went out of business, leaving a homeowner with a half-finished kitchen. The customer asked Don to complete the project, and word of mouth spread. That experience laid the foundation for what would officially become Don’s Custom Cabinets & Countertops in 1981, a Colorado-based fabricator and installer specializing in kitchens, baths, countertops, and cabinetry.
Built by Family
Family is at the heart of the business. Don and his wife, Heidi—co-owner and head of bookkeeping for more than 30 years—work side by side every day. Their three children, Haden, Heath, and Haley, are also deeply involved, contributing across sales, operations, and marketing. Don’s brother Dennis has been with the company for more than 25 years, and together with an extended team of about 20 employees and trusted trade partners, they continue to build on a foundation of respect, honesty, and craftsmanship.
Defining the Difference
Relationships come first at Don’s Custom Cabinets & Countertops. The team prioritizes listening, educating, and guiding clients through every decision.
That client-centered focus is reinforced by keeping both cabinetry and countertop fabrication and installation entirely in-house—improving satisfaction while ensuring consistent quality at every step.
Cambria Connection: A Shared Standard
As a family-owned, American-made, and client-centered business, the company embodies the same values that define Cambria. Drawn in by Cambria’s reputation and customer demand over two decades ago, their use of the product soon grew into a lasting partnership.
In 2021, they were recognized as a Cambria Premier Partner, a distinction that reflects excellence in product, service, and showroom experience.
That bond has been further strengthened through Cambria University™. Don and his team have attended hands-on training in Minnesota that reshaped everything from techniques to organization. “The training gave us practical ideas that improved nearly every part of our business, and we’ve built on those lessons to make it even stronger,” Don says.
Featured Projects
A Kitchen Reimagined: What began as a small countertop project expanded into a full kitchen renovation after a client arrived with a Harlow™ sample from a nearby Cambria showroom. The project grew to include a large mitered waterfall island in Inverness Stonestreet™, which also carried through to a fireplace surround. Harlow was then used on the perimeter countertops, showcasing precision across both vertical and horizontal applications.

Primary Bath Showcase: In this full home remodel, it was the primary bath that shined. The centerpiece: a striking bathtub clad in Everleigh, finished with precise mitered edges that created clean corner details. The same material carried across the vanity tops, tying the entire space together in a cohesive, elevated design.
Precision at Its Finest
From everyday installs to cutting-edge applications, the company takes pride in pushing fabrication forward. Among their latest pursuits is backlighting, a growing design opportunity the team is eager to expand with Cambria quartz surfaces. They’ve already completed backlit vanities and islands and are currently in the works on a full backlit Brighton™ feature wall.
A recent investment in a state-of-the-art saw-and-waterjet system allows the team to achieve intricate shapes, maximize slab yield, integrate mitered sinks, and elevate the precision of their Cambria quartz installations.
The Next Chapter
With the next generation already stepping in, Don’s Custom Cabinets & Countertops is poised for a new chapter. The team continues to learn and grow alongside the ever-changing kitchen and bath industry, embracing new techniques, materials, tools, and technology.
Growth doesn’t mean changing what matters most. The family is intent on carrying forward the values that have defined the company for more than four decades. “When we shifted our focus from chasing profit to prioritizing customer satisfaction, it transformed our business. We’ve grown by keeping family and local values at the center, and we’ll continue to do that in the future,” says Don.
