Since its founding in 1915, the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club has existed to serve disadvantaged kids. Formed with the intention of giving the children of Manhattan’s Kips Bay neighborhood an alternative to roaming the streets, the organization has grown and evolved over the years to meet the ever-changing needs of its young members. “Many years ago, youngsters' needs were different, and our programs were more physical education–oriented,” says Kips Bay Executive Director Daniel Quintero. “Today, we offer everything from digital arts training to mental health support to job readiness—and much more.”

The new Kips Bay Culinary Arts Center (you can see the space, designed by Ellie Cullman and Alyssa Urban and featuring Cambria Ironsbridge counters, in Cambria Style’s Winter 2023 Issue) is a perfect example of the kinds of diversified programming Kips Bay offers. “Teaching healthy eating habits and cooking skills is a really important way to empower our club members,” says Quintero. “It’s an example of how we try to provide them with the skills they need today and in the future.”

Cambria has been supporting Kips Bay’s programs for many years, donating materials for the designers who participate in the annual Kips Bay Decorator Show Houses—key fundraisers for the organization that started in New York and have now expanded to Dallas and Palm Beach. “We serve about 10,000 children in our nine locations,” says Quintero. “And we truly appreciate the support from Cambria, both for the show houses and for our programming—it’s that kind of support that helps make the work we do possible.”
