It’s a new year and you’re finally ready to take on that renovation project you’ve been dreaming of. But, maybe you’re not sure how to begin. Print these “Renovation Checklists” to use as your preliminary planning tools. These lists can guide you through some important topics to consider. Whether you’re working with a designer, builder, or remodeler or are adventurous enough to manage your own project, everyone needs a thoughtful starting point.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN your kitchen renovation:

Establish a ballpark budget.

Measure your space and create a floor plan.

Gather inspiration images you like (and some you don’t like).

Determine what doesn’t need replacing (Newer kitchen appliances? Sound cabinets? You could keep them!).

Browse products to see if your ideas will fit your budget.

Know your renovation timeline.

Prepare your family for some disruption.

Prepare your house for dust and noise. Use plastic or heavy-duty paper to cover the floors in surrounding areas, seal off the room with plastic sheeting—but don’t forget to create a temporary door.

Take “before” pictures.

If you’re planning to re-use appliances, record all the model numbers and dimensions before you move them out of the space.
