CONSIDERATIONS
QUARTZ WORKTOPS
VS. OTHER SURFACES
Granite, marble, and concrete stain. They require sealing and frequent maintenance. Marble and concrete also absorb liquids which can harbor harmful bacteria. By contrast, nonabsorbent quartz surfaces resist stains, don’t require sealing, and are easy to maintain.
Other surfaces each have their own quirks. Acidic foods like lemon can cause etching on marble. Concrete is extremely heavy. Granite and other stones have limited applications.
Soapstone poses its own difficulties. Besides being high maintenance—it etches and scratches easily and requires frequent oiling—it has a soft, powdery feel and can darken over time. Cambria quartz worktops are maintenance free, smooth to the touch, and retain their character.
