Design Trend: Countertop Edge Treatment as a Design Element
Choosing the right edge treatment is very important to the overall look of your countertops. However, it is a design detail that is often overlooked or considered only as an afterthought. Depending on your choice of countertop material, style of cabinetry and overall design, the right edge treatment is an important detail that will have a significant impact on the look and feel of your kitchen or bath. Designers and homeowners are now using edge treatments as a design element to create a truly personalized style.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when considering your countertop edge treatments:
Choosing the right edge treatment is very important to the overall look of your countertops. However, it is a design detail that is often overlooked or considered only as an afterthought. Depending on your choice of countertop material, style of cabinetry and overall design, the right edge treatment is an important detail that will have a significant impact on the look and feel of your kitchen or bath. Designers and homeowners are now using edge treatments as a design element to create a truly personalized style.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when considering your countertop edge treatments:
- The smaller the kitchen or bath, the thinner and more simple the edge should be. Larger rooms can handle thick, more complex edges.
- Clean and simple edge treatments evoke a contemporary feel; ornate edge treatments can provide a traditional, classic look.
- It's okay to mix and match. For example, using an ornate ogee or chiseled edge on a center island and a squared edge on the perimeter countertops can create visual interest and a unique design statement.
- The durability of the edge treatment is important. For example, stone countertops and their edges are easy to clean and offer tremendous durability. Solid surface or laminate countertops may allow you to create a wood edge that matches the cabinets, but the wood will not withstand constant exposure to water and household chemicals.
- Edge pricing will vary depending on the countertop material, edge thickness and the complexity of the edge profile. Make sure to consider the additional cost of edge treatments when comparing the total cost of countertop materials.
From traditional to contemporary and everywhere in between, Cambria can be fabricated in a variety of edge profiles. Standard edges such as eased, bevel and ogee are readily available. Profile offerings and prices vary by market and should be discussed with your local Cambria dealer.
For examples of commonly available edge profiles integrated into beautiful kitchen and bath designs, visit CambriaUSA.com.

YOU ASKED... Straight Answers to Frequent Questions.
Q: How do I clean my countertops without damaging the surface?
A: For many, the holidays are spent with family and friends. Often times this means preparing meals and entertaining guests in the kitchen. With an endless variety of surface material available to homeowners, it is important to understand the appropriate cleaning procedures for each surface in your home. Some surfaces require specific care and maintenance, so it is important to understand the maintenance requirements before selecting a countertop surface. Porous countertop material like granite and marble can withstand frequent use, however these countertop materials are porous, requiring frequent cleaning and maintenance with chemicals and topical treatments. These surfaces also require sealing to maintain surface quality and shine. According to Consumer Reports, quartz is the "fastest-growing countertop surface" and the best product for busy kitchens because of its strength and nonporous, stain-resistant surface that doesn't require sealing. With Cambria, simply wash with warm water. It's that simple.

CAMBRIA IN THE COMMUNITY
Cambria is a proud supporter of many local and national charitable organizations,
including Sobriety High, Bolder Options, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters,
as well as various charities which support the men and women in the United States Armed Forces.
Cambria recently donated more than
50 square feet of countertops to "The Sharp Project," a local charity project for the renovation of Steve and Jan Sharp's home in
Minnetonka, Minnesota. The Sharp family
has dedicated their lives, hearts and home to their three biological children, 30 foster children and two adopted
children. That much family activity in one house has earned the home the title the "Velveteen Rabbit" ... worn down
to the threads, literally, with so much love. The floors are plywood, the little bit of carpet that has been given as
hand-me-downs from other's homes is simply laid as patchwork on the floor, the laminate counters are chipped down to
the splintered particle board, the cabinets & fixtures are beyond repair and even the huge tree that is flourishing
in their front yard is splitting at the seams from all the years of little ones climbing through its limbs.
Throughout these 30 plus years the Sharps invested their money not in their house, but instead in the essential needs
of their children, some of whom have grown up and begun their own lives of giving ... continuing to Pay it Forward.
Cambria's donation was one of more than 100 received from local individuals and businesses.

TELL YOUR STORY
We're asking you to share the ups and downs and everything in between when it comes to remodeling your home.
Cambria invites you to share your kitchen or bathroom makeover story. What better way to learn what to do
(and not to do) when embarking on a remodeling project than to hear it straight from homeowners themselves.
One story will be featured in and upcoming issue of Design Trends and posted on Cambria's website.
The contributing homeowner will receive a special gift from Cambria.
We've come up with the following questions to help you tell your story:
- Why did you decide to remodel?
- What surprised you the most during the remodeling process?
- What was the best/worst part about the remodel?
- What advice would you give a friend about to embark on their own kitchen or bathroom remodel?
